Blood Borne Pathogen Spill Clean Up Kit

Blood Spill Cleanup Procedure: 1. Restrict access to the accident site by roping, taping, or blocking off the affected area until it has been cleaned and disinfected. 2. Retrieve the contents of the bloodborne pathogen spill cleanup kit, which includes disinfectant, disposal bag, twist-tie, gloves, shoe covers, gown, and face shield. 3. Prior to cleaning up the spill, put on rubber gloves, face shield, disposable gown, and shoe covers. 4. Spray the disinfectant on the blood spill, completely saturating the spill, and then wait 2 minutes before mopping it up. 5. While waiting, assemble the first mop handle and the first mop head. 6. Use the first mop to clean the disinfected blood spill, making sure to not get closer than necessary by using the mop handle correctly. 7. After cleaning as much as possible with the first mop head, respray the remaining spill with disinfectant and spray the first contaminated mop head as well. 8. Remove and dispose of the first mop head in the provided plastic bag, then attach the second mop head, spray with disinfectant, and re-clean the area of the blood spill. 9. Spray the second mop head with disinfectant, and then remove and dispose of it in the provided plastic bag. Place the remaining handle in the bag as well. 10. Review the cleanup site, and if the spill has not been completely removed, retrieve another bloodborne pathogen spill cleanup kit to finish the procedure. 11. Spray the gloves, shoe covers, and gown with the remaining disinfectant before removing them. 12. Dispose of the shoe covers, gown, face shield, and gloves in the provided plastic bag, tie it off with the twist-tie, and then dispose of it in the regular trash. 13. Wash hands with soap and running water as soon as possible. If hand washing facilities are not available, use antiseptic wipes or hand sanitizer.
